Trade Mark Scam

We recently received the above letter from IOPTS (International Organization for Patent & TradeMark Service, LLC). The letter is intended to create the impression that a filing fee or some trade mark related fee is outstanding.

We did some digging around and found a WIPO web page that warns of similar scams. Other sites mentioning IP scams include:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scams_in_intellectual_property
http://www.epo.org/patents/law/legal-texts/InformationEPO/archiveinfo/29062006.html
http://www.ipo.gov.uk/t-unsolicited.htm

We would like to know what the IP community (WIPO and other IP offices around the world) is doing to prevent such scams or what action is taken once a fraud is identified?

Answers to our questions would be welcome. Email us at info@lexsynergy.com or post your comments on our blog.
