Squatters employ a variety of techniques to profit from trademarks. One them is to add a descriptive prefix or suffix to the trademark term. In this case below the mark was LYCA, to which the squatter added the descriptive suffix “movie”.
The panellist agreed that the dominant part of the domain name was LYCA and that it infringed the Complainant’s trademark LYCA. The squatter was also not helped by the fact he was using a logo which was similar in colour and style to one of the Complainant’s trademarks on its website.
Lexsynergy were successful in recovering the domain name lycamovie.com.
