Successful UDRP Case - fiabrussels.com
If a domain name is not renewed it runs the risk of being
registered by an unauthorized party. If this happens there are ways to recover
the lost domain. One of these methods is the UDRP.
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) lost the
domain fiabrussels.com which was then registered by an individual and used as a
blog. The UDRP panelists found that the domain name infringed on FIA’s
trademark and that the blogger was using the domain in bad faith.
Lexsynergy was successful in recovering the domain
fiabrussels.com.

New gTLDs Pass 7 Million Registrations Milestone
The number of domain names registered across the 746 new gTLDs to have been delegated passed the seven million registrations mark on 13 August according to nTLDstats.com, taking just over two months to achieve the last million domains registered. Currently there are 7.25 million domains.
The new gTLD with the most registrations continues to be .xyz with 1.155 million but numbers have slightly declined from 1.217 million when large numbers of registrations came up for renewal, many not being renewed. However registrations for .xyz dwarf all other new gTLDs and account for 23.6 percent of all domains registered in new gTLDs. The second biggest gTLD is .网址 (.website) with 379,000 registrations followed by .science (327,000).
One change in the top ten gTLDs is that they are all now generic terms. The first geographic new gTLD is .nyc, which is twelfth while .berlin is thirteenth. The only other non-generic terms in the top 30 are .london and .ovh. On .berlin, numbers have more than halved from a high of 157,240 in mid-April to 76,000 today as many of the 60,000 or so of free or cheap domains registered, and others, have not been renewed.

.SEX – Last of ICM’s Adult Entertainment gTLDs Launched on 1 September
ICM Registry
(the same Registry that manages .XXX, .ADULT and .PORN) has launched its fourth
and final adult entertainment gTLD: .SEX.
These four “frisky” TLDs may pose a risk to trademark
owners as unauthorized registrations could associate your mark with undesirable
content. Excessive action is not necessary but a strategic approach is
recommended to ensure core marks are secured with these TLDs.
.XXX, .ADULT and .PORN are available for registration on
a first come, first served basis. Lexsynergy recommends registering core trademarks
within these TLDs. Lexsynergy provides a privacy service to ensure the public
cannot associate your brand with the domain name via the Whois record.
.SEX just launched into the TMCH Sunrise Phase and is
currently available to trademark owners who have their mark validated with the
TMCH. Here is a summary of all launch phases for .SEX:
TMCH Sunrise – September 1, 2015 –
October 1, 2015
Must have a
trademark validated with the TMCH to participate. Domains are registered on a
first come, first served basis.
Sunrise B/Domain Matching – October 5,
2015 – October 30, 2015
Registrants
who participated in the Sunrise B phase for .XXX, during 2011, will have the
ability to register directly matching strings in .SEX. Additionally, any
registrants who currently own a .XXX can register the matching .SEX strings. In
order to participate in this phase, the .XXX domain(s) must be registered by 1
October, 2015.
General Availability – November 4, 2015
– onward
Open to all
registrants on a first come, first served basis
Don’t let your
brand “get screwed” by these gTLDs. Lexsynergy can create a custom approach
that is strategic and cost efficient. Learn more by contacting your Account
Manager or our support team (support@lexsynergy.com).
